Dongho Kim
Bio

Prof. Dongho Kim graduated from Seoul National University in 1980 with a B.S. in Chemistry and earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Washington University in 1984. After his academic experiences, he served as a research scientist at the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science from 1986 to 2000. He then joined the Department of Chemistry at Yonsei University, where he became an Underwood Distinguished Professor.

Based on his scientific achievements, he has received several prestigious awards, including the Presidential Award (The 28th Science Day) (1995), Award for the Scientist of the Month (1999), selection as a Regular Member of the Korea Advanced Academic Association (2002), Sigma-Aldrich Award (Korea Chemical Society, Sigma-Aldrich) (2005), the 10th Korea Science Award in Chemistry (Presidential Award) (2006), the 4th FILA Basic Science Award (The Korean Academy of Science and Technology) (2017), National Medal for Science and Technology (Ministry of Science and ICT) (2017), Academic Excellence Prize (Korean Chemical Society) (2018), The JPA Honda-Fujishima Award (The Japanese Photochemistry Association) (2019), Hans Fisher Award (Society of Porphyrins & Phthalocyanines) (2020), Sudang Prize (Sudang Foundation) (2020), Toray Prize (Toray Science & Technology Foundation) (2022), The Masuhara Lectureship Award (2023), The National Academy of Sciences Award (2023), and The Morino Lectureship Award (2024).

His research interests include:

  • Characterization of Hückel (Anti)Aromatic and Möbius (Anti)Aromatic Expanded Porphyrins
  • Spectroscopic Analysis of Reversal of (Anti)Aromaticity in the Excited States of Expanded Porphyrins
  • Excitation Energy Migration Processes in Various Molecular Arrays by Ensemble and Single Molecule Spectroscopy
  • Coherent Exciton Coupling Dynamics in Molecular Aggregate Systems
  • Exciton Localization and Delocalization Processes in Oligo-thiophenes
  • Professor Kim has published over 630 papers in SCI journals, which have been cited over 40,000 times, giving him an H-index of 106. His contributions include 108 papers in the Journal of the American Chemical Society and 77 papers in Angewandte Chemie International Edition.
